North Korean Refugee Freedom Day: Two Decades of Hanawon
July 7, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
On July 8, 1999, the South Korean government opened the Settlement Support Center for North Korean Refugees, often referred to as “Hanawon.” In the last two decades, more than 32,000 North Korean refugees have made it to South Korea.
* What have been their experiences?
* How has Hanawon changed over the past two decades?
* What advice would refugees give to newcomers?
Join Teach North Korean Refugees (TNKR) as we mark the 20th anniversary of Hanawon’s founding, learning lessons and hearing directly from North Korean refugees about their Hanawon experiences.
We will also be inviting at least two government officials connected with Hanawon.
